CEC reviews situation in central Assam

BB Tandon reviewed the ground situation in five central and upper Assam districts ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Chief Election Commissioner BB Tandon on Thursday reviewed the ground situation in five central and upper Assam districts ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

In a meeting with deputy commissioners, superintendent of police and top government and police officials of the districts, Tandon discussed ground situation including law and order.

The meeting is a part of the programme chalked out by the Election Commission to assess the ground realities of the states that goes to poll this year, official sources said.

Election Commissioner MB Chawla, Deputy Election Commissioner R Balakrishnan, state Chief Electoral Officer JP Prakash and Davinder Kumar North Assam division commissioner were also present in the meeting.

Top officials of five districts of Udalguri, Darrrang, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji were present.

Tandon and his team will visit to Nagaon on Friday to take stock of the situation in other central Assam districts.
