Talking to newspersons here on Monday, Tiwari challenged the government to appoint a judicial committee headed by a high court justice to probe the suicides and starvation deaths in Bundelkhand. The government has repeatedly denied that starvation had caused the deaths.

He said the cover-up exercise would serve no purpose.Tiwari condemned the Mulayam Government’s demand for a special package for Bundelkhand from the Centre on lines of Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.

The special packages were given to some of the States because of some specific reasons and circumstances while there was no such reason for it in Uttar Pradesh.

The government was spending crore of rupees for populist schemes like Kanya Dhan Yojana and Unemployment Allowance.

This showed there was no dearth of funds and no need for any special package, he added.
