Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday accused the Centre of planning to carry out raids on Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, his associates and friends.
"We have definite information that the Centre is planning to conduct raids on Singh, his associates and friends in the next four-five days," he alleged while talking to reporters in Lucknow.
Asked what raids did he apprehend, Yadav said the Centre had many agencies but did not specify.
He said Congress in the past has conducted raids on the premises of leaders of mass public appeal only to tarnish their image and cited examples of former Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, former Haryana Chief Minister Chautala and Jayalalithaa.
The Chief Minister dared the UPA government to probe what he alleged "amassing of wealth by several Congress leaders" in New Delhi.
Terming the charges against him of amassing wealth and property disproportionate to his known sources of income as "baseles and fabricated", the Chief Minister said he had declared his properties and assets before the Election Commission.
