Chargesheets will be filed in a week against over 150 MNS activists, including some of its senior functionaries, who were arrested following the violent anti-North Indians campaign run by the party in February this year, police said on Monday. Joint Commissioner of Police KL Prasad said the chargesheets will be filed against those booked on the charge of rioting and criminal conspiracy in a week's time.

Papers regarding filing of searate chargesheets against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azim Azmi, who were arrested for promoting enimity between groups, have been sent to the government for approval, he said.

Senior MNS leaders including Shirish Shinde, Yashwant Killedar, Pravin Darekar, Nitin Sardesai, Aditya Shirodkar and Raj's confidante MLA Bala Nandgaonkar were booked on the charge of criminal conspiracy though they did not participate in the street violence.

Violent clashes had broken out between MNS and SP workers on the streets of central Mumbai before the rally of United National Progressive Alliance addressed by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

MNS activists targeted migrants like taxi drivers and roadside food stall owners, an action justified by Raj Thackeray alleging those from UP and Bihar are destroying the Marathi culture.
