The fact that the Clintons would be flying to India for the Chatwal wedding is no surprise. When they were the First Couple of the US, Clintons' favourite eating joint was Chatwal's Bombay Palace restaurant in Washington.

They often visited the residence of the Chatwals for private dinners.

They are now to head 1,000 guests, including hundreds of celebrities, for the week-long, multi-million pound celebrations in Mumbai and Rajasthan and finally in Delhi, marking the wedding of Vikram Chatwal, 34, who helps his father run the huge restaurant and hotel business with Priya Sachdev, a model and actress from Delhi.

The wedding is being compared to that of Lakshmi Mittal's daughter in Paris and in which he reportedly spent over £30 million. The guests are to be flown by private planes, like by Sahara chief for the wedding of his two sons, from one city to another.

The best of hotels have been booked. And like in the Mittal wedding, guests would be receiving a gift daily.

The marriage of Vikram with Priya was fixed by the former Miss India Queenie Dhody, a family friend of Chatwals, according to the Telegraph. The two were introduced by Queenie and soon after Vikram slipped a £500,000 diamond ring at a gurdwara to seal the match.

The bride and groom, according to the report, would be wearing outfits designed by Roberto Cavalli, Jean Paul Gautier, Valentino, Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani.

From Mumbai, the scene is to shift to forts Shiv Niwas, Devigarh and then to Jag Mandir, where several theme parties have been scheduled.
