Chautala was elected leader of the LP unanimously, a party spokesman told PTI in Chandigarh.

He said that the INLD Chief told the newly elected MLAs that the people of the state had given a verdict against the ruling Congress and in favour of the INLD.

Chautala called upon the MLAs and other leaders of the party to fan out in the field and thank the voters for the support to the INLD.

"The Congress has lost the moral and democratic right to remain in power after failing to get even a simple majority in the 90-member state assembly," he added.

Chautala immediately after the meeting left for New Delhi.
