King Jigme Khesar Namgyal granted an audience to Chidambaram at his Tashichhodzong Palace on Saturday after being escorted in the traditional Chipdrel ceremony.
The talks are believed to have revolved around issues of bilateral and common interest.
The king also hosted a luncheon for the visiting minister, the state-run Kuensel reported.
Chidambaram later called on Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley and Home and Cultural Affairs Minister Minjur Dorji and discussed with them several issues like border management, security and checking militant activities.
The minister also met former king Jigme Singye Wangchuk. He also visited places of historical and cultural interest.
Chidamabaran is accompanied by Joint Secretary (North) Satish C Mehta and other senior officials. He will return to New Delhi on Monday.
