A large area along the Gadaya Lohia Park, Coolie Bazaar, has been facing acute problem due to choked sewer lines. Despite several complaints by the local residents, the concerned KMC authorities did not address the problem.

On Friday afternoon, when a KMC junior engineer Jagdish Prasad Verma went for an inspection of the area, he had an argument with the local residents.

Meanwhile, a resident informed BJP MLA Satish Mahana about the JE’s arrival and the ensuing argument. Within no time, Mahana along with his supporters reached Coolie Bazaar and held the JE hostage.

However, the JE expressed his helplessness with regard to the cleanliness drive on account of financial crisis. Not content with the reply, Mahana held a telephonic conversation with the municipal commissioner (MC), apprising him about the worsening civic scenario in the area and demanding immediate repair and cleaning of the sewer lines.

It was only after the MC ordered immediate cleaning and repair of the sewer lines that Mahana freed the JE.

KMC chief orders demolition drive

MUNICIPAL COMMISSIONER Badal Chatterjee directed removal of illegal constructions at Lajpat Nagar during an inspection drive and recovered on the spot a fine of Rs 17925 from the encroachers.

During the inspection drive, the official found illegal constructions by local residents who had installed grills, generators and ramps on the footpath. The KMC squad demolished all illegal constructions and slapped fine on seven residents.

KMC's cattle catching squad accompanying the municipal commissioner, caught 17 pigs and stray cows from Ashok Nagar and Brahma Nagar.

The municipal commissioner also gave orders for removal of encroachments at Ram Lila ground at Lajpat Nagar before Dussehra.
