Civic polls in Pondy after 38 yrs
The polls, which were previously held in 1968, four years after the French rule ended, will be held in three phases.
Elections to the local bodies would be conducted in the Union Territory of Pondicherry after a gap of 38 years.

The polls to five municipalities and 10 panchayats would be held in three phases on June 24, 27 and July one respectively, Pondicherry Election Commissioner R Narayana told reporters in Pondicherry on Monday.
The previous civic poll was conducted in 1968, four years after the French rule ended.
The polls would be conducted under the Pondicherry Municipalities, Commune and Village Panchayats Act 1973 and the schedule has been fixed under the directive of the Madras High Court, Narayana said.
He said that in first phase, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam municipalities and Cottuhery, Neduncadu, Neravy, TR Pattinam and Tirunallar panchayats would be covered.
The second phase of poll scheduled on June 27 would cover Pondicherry and Oulgaret municipalities and the Villianoor panchayat.
The last phase would be held on July one in Ariyankuppam, Bahoor, Mannadipet and Nettapaommune panchayats.
Narayana said there were 6,69,884 registered voters in the Union Territory and 1,190 polling booths would be put up to ensure smooth polling.
With the announcment of poll schedule, the model code of conduct came into effect on Monday.
