The thriller raced ahead of 1940 classic His Girl Friday starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell which ranked second, to be named number one on the new Entertainment Weekly countdown.

Hollywood's hottest couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Mr & Mrs Smith was third on the list.

Body Heat and Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon's baseball comedy Bull Durham also made it to the list.

2001's Mexican drama Y Tu Mama Tambien, a coming-of-age story about two teenage boys taking a road trip with a woman in her late twenties and Don't Look Now which became famous for its love making scene involving Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie rounded the top 10.
