The chief minister’s entourage was scheduled to visit London, New York, St Louis and Chicago on a week-long trip to meet potential investors, including NRIs.

“The proposed trip has been rescheduled as the chief minister is unable to find time due to ‘unavoidable’ circumstances,” sources in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said.

This has also necessitated deferment of the scheduled Global Investors’ meet by at least six months, sources added. Formal announcement of rescheduling of the tour and the meet is likely soon.

The chief minister was to take along with him some of his Cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni, Secretary to Chief Minister, Iqbal Singh Bains and Managing Director, Madhya Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation (MPSIDC) Praveen Garg.

The task of marketing the state globally is assigned to FICCI, which is to organise ‘Destination Madhya Pradesh — Global Investment Summit’.

FICCI had organised a similar event in Gujarat two years ago that attracted hefty investments to the State. FICCI has, in its blueprint for Madhya Pradesh, mentioned promotion of agriculture, employment and marketing of projects to attract global investors from the United States, UK, Malaysia, Japan, Australia, Singapore, China, Italy and other countries.
