CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed releases Rs 85.50 lakh for flood victims

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Tuesday ordered release of an amount of Rs 85.50 lakh as ex-gratia relief for the victims of September 2014 floods.

The money has been credited from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to the Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund for onward disbursement to the affected people.

The relief would be given to those seriously injured or to the kith and kin of others who died or went missing in the floods.

An official spokesman on Tuesday stated that the funds have been electronically transferred to the divisional commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu for onward distribution to the next of kin (NoK) of 37 deceased and 23 seriously injured persons.

The spokesperson said that Rs 62 lakh would be given to the NoK of 27 dead and 16 seriously injured persons in Jammu division while Rs 23.50 lakh would be provided to NoK of 10 dead and 7 seriously injured persons in Kashmir division.

The NoK of those persons who died in the floods will get Rs 2 lakh each as compensation while those seriously injured will be paid Rs 50,000 each, the spokesman added.
