Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav’s dream project spreads over 40 acres of land and promises a hi-tech international ambience with fully AC lecture theatres, three- storeyed AC library equipped with national and international law journals and books worth over Rs 2 crore.

Incurring a cost of Rs 168 crore, Rs 40 crore was sanctioned in the first phase and another Rs 60 crore would be released shortly. Some 1600 students are likely to be given admissions and 80 students would be admitted to first year as well. The building will have the wi fi system that would let the students to browse Internet on their laptop while sitting even at their lawn. Other salient features of this building are seminar halls, moot court, shops, hospital, bank, post office and what not.

There would be separate hostels for boys and girls, residential building for the accommodation of the teachers and staff, guest room, recreation centre, ground for sports, etc.

The forms will be available from the next month. To meet the deadline, eight units of Rajkiya Nirman Nigan and thousands of labourers are working overtime. Their aim is to ready a few lecture theatres and hostels required to run the first year classes.

Says SS Katiyar, the director of the institute and V-C of Kanpur University: “The applicants will have to clear a competition to enter the institute. We’re starting BA-LLB five years degree course and LLM from this year. A team of Bar Council visited the campus recently and they found it beyond their expectation. Soon they will convene a meeting and give consent to starting the courses.”

Named after the noted thinker, the Madhu Limaye Library would be a major attraction. Rajkiya Nirman Nigam MD RS Yadav said they would complete the project in record time.

Yadav said: “The construction work got underway from February 12, 2006 and by June 30 four classrooms and hostel accommodating about 100 students would be handed over. And by March 2007, the building would be completely ready. In all eight units—seven civil and one electric is engaged in finishing the work.”

Architect Ajai Behl of Civil Consultant said: “The specifications followed in the construction of the building are of international standard. The flooring of the entire building is being done with Jaisalmer vitrified tiles and granite.”

The first block is the faculty building that will have the office of the head of the institute, the registrar, examination cell and the faculty room, the second block would be lecture theatre complex, third building will be the library, next building would be the residential facility for teachers, guest house, etc.
