CMS holds unique camp

HOLDING OF a three-day camp by students of the College for Management Studies (CMS) at Makanpur village proved to be a unique experience for both villagers and students.

CMS director Prof MA Naqvi claimed that never before any such camp was organised in the rural areas to create awareness among future managers and rural consumers. The programme was sponsored by CMS management board president Ms Mini Swaroop.Talking to HT, Naqvi said about 80 students, including 30 girls, participated in the camp and enjoyed interacting with the rural masses.

Dean of Students Affair at the IIT-K Dr Prawal Sinha while inaugurating the camp admired the spirit of students and the management for introducing a revolutionary idea in the field of management. He said there was need to bridge the communication gap between urban and rural people and to bring rural people into the national stream.

Dr HC varma, physics professor at the IIT-K exhorted rural youths and students of the CMS to learn to succeed amidst in the face of adversity. He said it was will and not luck that made people great in the world.

Prof of humanities at the IIT-K, Dr KK Saxena gave lessons on management of one’s life by practising concentration, yoga and meditation. Yoga guru Dr Ravindra Porwal advised rural youths to collect herbal grass and shrubs get them dried and sold in Nayaganj Market. This would fetch handsome money for them.

IG Kanpur Zone Rizwan Ahmad also visited the camp and admired the CMS efforts.

While the village children were stunned to see computer and described it as ‘machine-man,’ students of CMS, who had never tasted rural life, enjoyed living in tents.

During the camp, cultural shows were presented by local artistes. The most enthralling show was that of Umesh and party. Two snake-charmers staged exhilarating dance. Mazahar Hussain Zafari recited Bhajans, children staged play on dowry and Anwar and party staged their tricky programmes. Students conducted field survey on issues like use of fertilizers, cottage industry, family planning and brand awareness. It was found that most villagers had abandoned use of hybrid seeds and chemical fertilizers. Almost all the people expressed their ignorance about branded goods available in the market.

The camp was held under the supervision of JP Nigam, PS Satsangi, Asad Hashmi, Reema Tanneja, Neha Malik, Rohit Khare and Mayank Arora.
