Common school system will douse quota flame

Association Thakurai group in Gorakhpur on Monday. The seminar was organised to mark the anniversary of former MLC and teachers? community leader RN Thakurai.

The seminar was organised to mark the anniversary of former MLC and teachers’ community leader RN Thakurai.
Raj Babbar said common school was an ancient tradition and spirit of our society. Lord Krishna and Sudama got education in the same school. Institutions like Takshila and Nalanda were our tradition. It was the British rulers who introduced new education system and widened the gap between the rich and the poor.
He said Jan Morcha was in favour of common school system where the syllabus and teachers would be the same and wards of district magistrates and businessmen would sit side by side with the wards of farmers and common people.
All would get equal opportunity to learn in the same atmosphere, he said.
Ridiculing the mid-day-meal scheme in primary schools, he said around 7000 primary schools in the State were being run by single teacher. In around 1000 schools there was no teacher and the State government was emphasising on mid-day-meals mainly because the contract to supply the meal was with a capitalist.
State president of UP Intermediate Teachers Association (Thakurai group) Jagdish Pandey said that Mulayam Singh Yadav government had promised to introduce common school system but under pressure the government had changed its stand. Local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal, Communist leader Atul Kumar Anjan, Ram Bahal Tripathi and others also spoke in the seminar.
