FARMERS LOSING lands due to widening of Patra nullah would get compensation or land at alternative places, assured Minister for Commerce and Industries Babulal Gaur during a visit to village Karariya today.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started widening of this nullah on the City outskirts at a massive scale. Gaur toured some areas on the complaints of farmers that the BMC has been using their lands for the widening of the nullah.

The minister, however, lauded the widening work and said the drive should have been carried out at least 20 years earlier. The encroachments on this nullah have narrowed it down in several parts of the City. Patra nullah had wrecked havoc in many parts of Bhopal during the recent downpour.

During the visit, local residents Madan Mali, Gayaprasad Mali, Shivshankar Kushwah and others complained that the BMC has been digging unevenly.

One of the farmers said that he has two-acre land and would lose most of it due to the widening work. Gaur said the widening of this nullah is important and assured farmers that they would get compensation or land at an alternate place.
He told them to produce papers of their land so that further action could be taken in this regard. BMC Commissioner Manish Singh and other elected representatives were also present on the occasion.
