MORE THAN 100 Congress workers were arrested while attempting to show black flags to the leader of Opposition L K Advani during his ‘Bharat Suraksha Yatra’ here today, police said.

The Congress activists were arrested when they were proceeding towards the venue of Advani’s public meeting, Inspector General of Police Sanjeev Kumar Singh said. The slogan-shouting protestors, led by State Congress general secretary Manak Agarwal, were released after Advani’s yatra rolled out of the City towards Indore, police said.

Though Agarwal alleged that the protesting Congressmen were lathi-charged before their arrest, police denied the charge. Terming Advani’s yatra as a big ‘flop’, the State Congress spokesman claimed “its failure despite the BJP government in the State spending huge sums of money shows declining support base of the saffron party”.
