'Cong committed to empower panchayats'said MP

Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma has said the Congress is committed to empower panchayats in the state. Addressing a gathering of sarpanches, panches and people at Mendhar, Sharma said late Rajeev Gandhi had the dream of transferring power to grassroots level through panchayats.

Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma has said the Congress is committed to empower panchayats in the state. Addressing a gathering of sarpanches, panches and people at Mendhar, Sharma said late Rajeev Gandhi had the dream of transferring power to grassroots level through panchayats.

He repeated the Congress' resolve to empower panchayats by implementing 73rd and 74th amendment.
He appealed to the state government to remove all bottlenecks in the path of providing power to panchayats.

Madan Lal expressed his anguish on the functioning of 14 departments given under the control of panchayats and said these departments are not consulting panchayats while formulating their plans and advised them to consult panchayats as directed by the state government.

The MP added that it was in the Congress' manifesto to empower panchayats and the party will continue to make efforts till powers in actual are transferred to panchayats.

Sharma informed the gathering about the pro-poor decisions taken by the Congress by launching the food security bill through an ordinance and the BJP did not allow it in Parliament. He added that the food security ordinance will provide subsidised ration on to the people. Nearly 82 crore people will be benefitted by this ordinance, the MP said.
