Led by City Youth Congress chief Devendra Singh Yadav the protestors gathered at the Fruit Market from where they marched to the IMC headquarters.

Initially, they raised slogans at the gate but barged into the headquarter premises after about 20 minutes to hand over a memorandum calling for the MiC member’s ouster.

The Congressmen, however, returned after they could not find any official to whom the memorandum could be handed over. The protest marks the growing disquiet among corporators at the manner in which a builder with dues of over Rs 20 lakh was granted a no-dues certificate for developing a Tennis Club by the Revenue department after paying only Rs 1.22 lakh.

The matter eventually reached the ears of Municipal Commissioner P Narhari who divested Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) MPS Arora of the charge of the sensitive Vigilance department and assigned him to head water tax recovery.

When contacted Shankar Yadav said the protests were being staged by “those inimical to me with a view to denigrate me in the Mayor’s eyes”. Yadav also scotched reports that he had threatened to resign if Arora was not removed.
