Cong nominates Amita from Amethi assembly seat

Cong has nominated Amita Singh, wife of former union minister Sanjay Singh, from the Amethi assembly seat for LS polls.

Congress has nominated Amita Singh, wife of former union minister Sanjay Singh, from the Amethi assembly seat for the ensuing by-elections.

Making an announcement to this effect, AICC General Secretary Oscar Fernandes said in a statement that Central Election Committee of the party has also selected Arvind Kumar Kori and Pradeep Jain Aditya from Ajitmal-SC and Jhansi assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh respectively.

Amita Singh had won the Amethi seat in the last assembly polls on BJP ticket but resigned two months ago before joining Congress. Her husband also joined Congress last year.

Amethi assembly seat falls under prestigious Amethi Lok Sabha constituency once represented by Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi. Congress President Sonia Gandhi also won Amethi Lok Sabha seat twice in 1998 and 1999 polls.

Rahul Gandhi, son of the Congress President, is seeking his maiden entry in Lok Sabha from Amethi.
