Cong takes on BJP over Iraq abuse
Congress deplored Govt's silence on the abuse of Iraqi prisoners and Advani's terming it US's internal matter.
The Congress on Sunday deplored the Vajpayee government's silence on the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American forces and the statement of Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani that it was an internal affair of United States and said that the matter has be to be taken up by all those concerned about civilised international society.

"We are surprised that Advani wants to treat the abuse of Iraqi prisoners as an internal affair of US. The NDA government has not only failed to condemn the barbaric treatment to Iraqi prisoners, including some of Indian origin, but also has the temerity to say that this is an internal affair of US", party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.
Everybody knows as to what has happened in Iraq was violation of the Geneva Convention, International law and human rights, he said adding that this was a matter to be taken by all those concerned about civilised international society.
"We condemn the incident and deplore the attitude of the Indian government for what had happened in Iraq", he said.
Asked that Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony has taken up the matter with the Centre for bringing back the stranded Keralities from Iraq, Reddy said government of India takes position on foreign policy matters.
