Maheshwari said that the second purpose of this Yatra was to establish the rule of law which was on the verge of collapse in UP and to end mafia and criminals’ influence in administration. In support of his claim, Maheshwari cited the example of the recent killing of Mehar Bhargava and the fire incident in Meerut.

“Today, there is no say of public representatives in the administration of justice and officers are acting in a most arbitrary and fanciful manner in UP’’, Maheshwari alleged, pointing out towards the recent fire incident in Meerut.

Urging the lawyers to come forward with the Congress in its fight against misrule in UP, Maheshwari said, “Lawyers are called social engineers and it is their primary duty to build the society and create an atmosphere in which rule of law, democratic values and constitutional rights guaranteed to the citizens should flourish. The foundation led by Gandhi and Nehru should be strengthened’’.

Maheshwari said that the Nyaya Rath Yatra, which was started in Lucknow on April 4, had already visited 14 districts where it had received good response.

Now it would cover the remaining 56 districts of UP.

He urged the lawyers and intellectuals to join the Rath Yatra in order to bring the Congress back to power in UP to achieve the goal of good administration and equality before law.

Meanwhile, the Nyay Rath Yatra was flagged off from Allahabad by Allahabad district Congress president Ashok Bajpai from Hotel Yatrik in Civil Lines.
