The ruling Congress in Puducherry on Monday disputed the claim of PMK Lok Sabha candidate M Ramadoss that he was responsible for the grant of B-two status for Puducherry.
.
Addressing press persons in Puducherry, M Elango Vice President, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and also PCC spokesperson, said the Union Finance Ministry had granted the status after adopting the population criterion of Puducherry and Oulgaret Municipal limits and brought it under 'Y' classification of the city.
This had consequently fetched 20 per cent House Rent allowance for the government staff. "There was no no such classification as B-two town or city," he said, adding that the government employees had now been getting 20 per cent of their basic pay as HRA because of the positive response of the Centre.
Elango said the claim by Ramadoss responsible for the enhanced status for Puducherry was "baseless, untenable and unfair".
