"We are not happy with BJP's dealing with insurgency in the North East... We are not against talks but we think BJP is moving in a fast track to take cooperation of insurgents to get a foothold in the region",Congress Working Committee member Salman Khursheed told a press conference here.

Asserting that insurgency was basically an 'identity-based aspiration', the Congress leader termed the BJP as the 'biggest enemy of identity' and said even all of its own leaders did not have the same idea of 'Hindutva'.

"You are playing with fire if you allow BJP to gain a foothold in the North East'' he said.
Asking the people of the region to learn a lesson" from BJP's Kashmir policy, the party in-charge of North-East said while on one hand the government was talking to the Hurriyat on autonomy on the other trying to abrogate Article 370.

He wondered where the North East fit in in BJP's core positions on cow slaughter and uniform civil code. What would happen to Meghalaya which followed 'matrilineal' system if a uniform civil code was implemented, Khursheed asked.
