Congress feels the heat on Telangana

This comes ahead of a Congress meeting in New Delhi to decide on Telangana as a separate state.
On Thursday, 16 of the 17 MLAs of the YSR Congress Party submitted their resignations to the Speaker, protesting the “Congress’s politics over Telangana”.
“The Congress has turned the separation issue into its private affair without taking into account the opinion across the state,” Shobha Nagi Reddy, MLA said.
The Congress is feeling the heat from within. Veerasiva Reddy, an MLA from Rayalaseema, resigned from the assembly and as a party member, stating his opposition to Telangana as a separate state.
TRS and Telangana Congress leaders rubbished the resignations and said they were a ploy to obstruct creation of the state.
Jaya Prakash Reddy, a Congress MLA from Medak in Telangana, faxed a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday, urging her against the creation of Telangana.
“Only 10% of people here want Telangana. A separate state is no solution to the region’s problems,” Reddy, also the government whip, stated.
Legislators of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is in a dilemma over Telangana, are assessing the situation.
Meanwhile, ministers from Seema-Andhra are going to New Delhi to lobby against Telangana.
