"Congress welcomes the Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav and general secretary Amar Singh's statement that they would work to prevent the formation of BJP-led government at the Centre, UPCC president Jagdambika Pal told newspersons here.

Pal exuded confidence that SP would work towards installing a government of secular parties at the Centre and said that the Congress would take an initiative for such a government with the help of BSP and SP.

Taking exception to BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's statement issued in New Delhi on Tuesday regarding ideological closeness with the Samajwadi Party, Pal said "No matter what they say, Mulayam Singh Yadav will play a vital role in keeping communal forces out of power and in installing a secular government".

To a question, Pal claimed that his party would win at least 20 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh as it has got the support of all sections of society in these elections.
