Congress MLA from Bihar's Bahadurganj assembly constituency Tausif Alam was on Sunday arrested for allegedly confining an on-duty Station House Officer (SHO) in Bihar's Kishanganj district on April 23, Superintendent of police Ramnarain Singh said.
Alam, who was arrested on the outskirts of Kishanganj town while having meal at a hotel, is lodged in jail.
Manu Prasad, SHO of Bahadurganj police station, was allegedly confined by the Congress MLA Tausif Alam and his associates following an altercation at Lohagarh on April 23, the SP said.
The incident took place when Manu Prasad and security personnel intercepted several vehicles at Lohagarh for checking that day.
When the policemen had demanded papers for the vehicles, the MLA got engaged in a heated argument, Singh said. Later, the SHO lodged a complaint accusing the MLA and his men of confining him for hours and preventing government officials from discharging their duties.
