The incident occurred in Phirangipuram village in the district on Thursday when motorcycle-borne Congress worker T Nagi Reddy (30) was going to participate in an election rally of Jagan Mohan, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy's son.
He was attacked by an armed group of at least ten assailants who charged at him with sickles and severed one of his limbs, they said.
The incident was an outcome of old rivalry which the group was trying to settle, police said adding a case has been registered and further investigations are on.
