A police constable was on Monday killed in a crude bomb attack in Allahabad after which a police team shot dead one of the assailants and arrested the other, a senior official said.
The incident took place at the busy Civil Lines crossing when head constable Ashok Pandey stopped two youths riding motorcycles for routine checking, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Akhilesh Mehrotra said.

He said the youths tried to escape after hurling a crude bomb which exploded killing Pandey.
One of them fell when his vehicle skidded and was arrested and taken to a hospital with splinter injuries while the other attacker was shot dead a few hundred metres from the crossing, the DIG said.
Mehrotra said the identity of the assailants could be established only after the statement of the injured attacker was recorded.
