It has sought the list of all permanent teachers in order of seniority from the colleges with an aim of making them members of the various academic bodies which are to be formed soon.

The non-involvement of college teachers in the decision making process of the varsity has long been a cause of heartburn among them and they have raised the issue of 'step motherly' treatment the university officials in the past at many platforms.
Right since the AU attained the Central status, the college teachers had been expecting things to change but as the months passed by no visible efforts to make them feel 'wanted', the teachers had once again started to air their anger.
However, now the AU administration has finally begun an exercise to involve the teachers of varsity's constituent colleges in the functioning of the Central University set-up.
In a "Most Urgent" letter written to the principals of all the constituent colleges on March 27, the AU Registrar Prof US Rai has sought the list of all permanent teachers in order of seniority in an attached performa and has requested the principals to forward the details to the Committee Section of the AU Registrar's Office latest by April 7.
The letter makes it clear that the move has been initiated as "After the promulgation of the University of Allahabad Act-2005, various academic bodies are to be constituted by the University."
But the varsity's initiative seems to have caught the colleges' administration by surprise and they are in a fix as in most of the colleges, no such seniority list of teachers are ready and a lot of disputes between colleagues exists over who is senior to whom.
The fact that the performa requires the colleges to provide details like name of the teacher along with the name of the department, designation, date of birth, date of substantive appointment, date of confirmation and the total length of service as on March 30, 2006, the authorities concerned have become busy getting the details out of files that were till just a few days back gathering dust on the racks.
