The union home ministry had written to the state government last week recommending action against the police officer in connection with his trip.

In 2010, India’s ambassador to Qatar Deepa Wadhwa had alleged that Thachankery had interacted with several persons with dubious background when he was there.

He had earlier been suspended from service in 2010 by the then LDF government, but was reinstated later.
