He loves the way his countrymen toss pizzas in ovens, but his heart chimes with an Indian beat. A self-confessed ‘kaali dal and cheese naan’ fanatic, Chef Andrea Golino isn’t your regular Italian master chef perfecting the namaste. In the Capital to introduce gourmets to Italian food and wine at a live cookery demonstration exclusively for HT City readers on coming Thursday, the kitchen czar garnishes a few slices of Italy for the pucca Delhiites.

“Kitchen’s my stage, and I love performing there. Cooking is a medium I express myself through, but live demonstrations bring out the best in me. I like to interact with people who want to learn about new cuisines, and that’s what I intend to do at the workshop,” he says. The workshop, hosted by Italy’s Opera Consortium to highlight the product range of their member companies, will give the food lovers of Delhi a rare chance to delve into Golino’s culinary forte. Golino will not just share his favourite recipes with the audience but also plans to educate them about the culinary heritage of Italy in a ‘fun’ manner. “I’m a ‘cookmedian’ (comedian plus cook). I don’t want to behave like a teacher; I want to inform but be entertaining at the same time.”

Chef Golino, who turned professional a decade ago, blends creativity into food making. “At my show, I plan to acquaint foodies with the secret to a hearty Italian meal and the wine that goes best with it. For Delhi’s food lovers, I’ll prepare a fare comprising parmesan cookies, pasta au gratin with aurora sauce and saffron risotto with grana padano. A discourse on the best wines also figures in the scheme of things,” he says.

The workshop, being organised in association with A&Elle Associati, Eloquenza and HT City at the Imperial Hotel on December 3, will kickstart with wine sommelier Harshal Shah taking guests through the basics of appreciating wine and sharing food and wine pairing tips. 50 lucky readers, along with a partner, stand the chance to win an invite to the workshop and see Masterchef Andrea Golino live in action. All that you need to do is participate in the contest published on HT City’s page 1 yesterday (November 27).

Three lucky winners in the audience will also take home Opera gift hampers upon correctly answering questions based on the recipes demonstrated.
