The incident occurred on Tuesday on a passenger train after Singh had a scuffle with Pabitra Naik, a havildar with the General Railway Police, over money. The vegetable vendor lost one of his legs and sustained severe head injuries.

According to reports, after the train crossed Bandhmunda station, Naik asked Singh to pay Rs 1,200. He refused as he had a valid ticket. But the policeman allegedly took out Rs 150 from his pocket. When Singh protested, he was pushed out.

Hundreds of people sat on a dharna in front of GRP SP’s office at Rourkela station demanding the arrest of the erring police official. After a probe on the basis of Singh’s dying statement, Naik was arrested.
