Cops gear up to snare wanted criminals
FOLLOWING THE directive of DGP Bua Singh to put notorious criminals behind bars, the district police have formed 105 three-member teams to arrest and gather information about 45 criminals carrying reward on themselves and 60 wanted criminals in the district. A police team led by a sub inspector will consist of two constables.

Talking to mediapersons in the Police Lines here on Sunday afternoon, SSP Dr GK Goswami informed that the cops had been given three days to gather information about such criminals. The team members would talk to the relatives and neighbours of criminals to know their whereabouts. Later, on their report, a final strategy would be chalked out to initiate legal action against the criminals.
Besides, the SSP informed that cases of fraud had been booked under Section 216, 420, 467 and 468 against 16 criminals, who had been bailed out on the basis of fake legal documents. During investigation, it came to light that many innocent persons gave their signatures on stamp papers and bonds for taking bank loans but their signatures were misused for holding surety of a jailed criminal to be bailed out.
Five such persons were arrested in Kotwali area and four got their bail cancelled in Bhelupur area following pressure from police.The police personnel have also been directed to take fingerprints, thumb impression and photographs of such persons who would be arrested under the Indian Panel Code from Monday.

Besides, cops will also be deployed in plainclothes near the girls’ academic institutions at the time of their opening and closure to arrest eve-teasers. A recommendation is likely to be made to increase the reward on notorious absconding criminal Kripa Choudhry from Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh.
He informed that the cops had also been directed to gather information about the foreign and suspected nationals living in the city. The landlords and neighbours had been told to inform the police about the activities of suspected persons in the interest of the nation.
In response to a query over the ongoing interrogation of accused in twin bomb blasts in Varanasi on March 7, Wali- Ullah here, the SSP said that the police got some vital information from the mastermind of the case. But it was the need of the hour to maintain secrecy for future strategy to crack down upon the network of terrorists.
