The Shivaji Park police are searching for a 40-year-old woman who allegedly cheated and robbed a group of senior citizens in Dadar on February 12.
The police tracked down the accused Deepika Rathod’s address to Ghatkopar. “We got Rathod’s address through her mobile number. But, the house was locked,” said Balkrishna Bhange, assistant police commissioner of Dadar division.
Following a complaint by 72-year-old Ramesh Saha (name changed), the officials registered a case of robbery and cheating against Rathod.
The police said the eight elderly men are from well-to-do families.
Saha alleged that Rathod had fled with gold chain and ring worth Rs 35,000 and Rs 8,500 cash from his Dadar house during a get-together with his friends.
According to the police, Saha, a retired executive, along with seven other elderly friends met for get-together party at his Dadar flat and also invited Rathod to join them. “They organise such parties frequently and Rathod was also invited,” said the police.
The party began at 12 noon and all of them got heavily drunk. When Rathod saw Saha and his friends drunk, she robbed the valuables and fled.
“Rathod was invited by one of the elderly men’s female friends, Nirmala (name changed) to Dadar,” said a police officer.
Nirmala said she came in touch with Rathod at Naigaon. “Rathod wanted to join the eight of us. I told her that we are eight senior citizens and frequently organise such parties to enjoy and spend time with girls. She agreed to join our group and promised to bring girls and women during the party,” she said in her complaint.
