Twenty Maoists have been reportedly killed in exchange of fire with the security personnel during combing operations in the jungles bordering Ganjam and Kandhamal two days after the guerrillas killed at least 13 policemen in neighbouring Nayagarh.

Orissa Home Secretary T.K. Mishra said, “These deaths are yet to be independently confirmed. Three policemen were also killed.”

A unit of the Greyhound force from Andhra Pradesh joined the central paramilitary forces and the state armed police, encircling the jungle where the Maoists are believed to be trapped after all exit routes were blocked on Saturday.
