This is the highest number of challans being issued in a single day so far this year.

The campaign was carried out on all main roads, including the stretch on the Gurgaon Expressway.

The challans were issued against various traffic violations. Nearly 307 people were fined for wrong parking, 154 for not wearing helmet, 95 for drunken driving, 30 for dangerously criss-crossing lanes and 39 for driving in ‘no entry’ zones.

Besides, 32 more challans were issued to auto-rickshaw, maxi cab and school bus drivers for not wearing uniform. Apart from this, 30 others drivers were penalised for driving without reflectors in their vehicles.

“We want to educate people on traffic rules. Such drives help ensure the safety and security of motorists and other commuters on the road,” a senior traffic police official told Hindustan Times.
