The Kanpur Zone IG and head of State Anti-dacoity Cell, Rizwan Ahmed said on Friday, Jagjivan or JJ, is only important gangleader left in the ravines to be taken care of. The police are going all out to eliminate him.
‘Patting himself’ for the dream run vis a vis the nabbing of the gangsters, the IG said it was for the first time since Independence that the police had managed to corner several dacoits. Nirbhay Gujjar, Rajjan Gujjar, Salim Gujjar, Raghuveer Dhimar, Chandan Yadav had been killed and their gangs dismantled.
Other dacoits such as Arvind Gujjar and Ramveer Gujjar surrendered in Madhya Pradesh failing to cope up with the pressure mounted from the police in Uttar Pradesh. Mangali Kewat was arrested in Kanpur and the police were able to recover an AK series gun with huge haul of cartridges.
The police also scored major success when it gunned down hardened dacoit Deo Kumar and four members of his gang in Auraiya. And, this clearly had an impact on JJ who moved out of UP to seek refuge in Madhya Pradesh, he said.
He, however, admitted that with the big gangs meeting their nemesis, the smaller ones were rearing their head in the ravines. He named the gangs of Naresh Dhimar and Sagar Mallah whose activities had increased. But the police are committed to the elimination of these gangs as well and a high-level meeting was organised at Farrukhabad to develop a better coordination with Allahabad and Bareilly police zones.
However, for Dadua, the IG has no strategy to follow the politically well-connected dacoit. He said that was for the Allahabad police zone to manage as Dadua was not active in Kanpur. The IG had no answer for the fact that the IG was the Anti-Dacoity Cell head!
