Costner delivers a hit

Costner dishes out a brilliant performance as an actor director in his comeback film, Open Range which opened in US last week.

Can the classic image of a Cowboy riding off into the sunset in a Hollywood western still work for attracting audiences in year 2003. While Hollywood had given up on the cowboy movies in favour of cops, space and robots Film director and actor Kevin Costner returns as a weather-beaten, old-fashioned cowboy Charley Waite in Open Range.

Costner best known for Elliot Ness (Untouchables), Jim Garrison (JFK) and the Amphibious Man (Waterworld) already has a Best Director Oscar for Dances With Wolves. Now for the third time in his career Costner has starred and directed his film. This romantic cowboy movie opened across the US on August 15 and has been shot in Alberta, Canada.

Set in the 1880s it is full of images of striking landscapes and the great open vastness of the Wild West. Open Range is a classic Hollywood Western with silent but strong cowboys fighting for freedom, justice, love and honour.

Open Range is already being termed by critics as one of best films of the summer. In the last two decades Hollywood has produced only a dozen odd Westerns. Open Range has now brought back the Cowboy movies into vogue.
