Mala, daughter of Om Prakash Panda, working with a courier agency and a resident of city’s densely populated Dashwaswamedh area, has been missing since March 16. She did not return home when she went out with her friends on Holi in the neighbourhood.

Mala told her mother that she was going with her friends to play Holi. When she did not return home for quite some time her mother Rajmani went to the house of a neighbour and asked about her daughter in the evening. The neighbours told that she had not come there.

Breaking down, the hapless father told HT that he was afraid that his daughter would have been sold to some wrong element in Mumbai.

The mother immediately informed her husband, Om Prakash, who launched a massive search for her daughter and did not find her anywhere in the locality and houses of relatives. Meanwhile, the father also noticed that Sanjay Sonker, a 25-year-old tenant of the same house in which he was living, was missing.

When Sanjay did not return to his house throughout the night, he lodged a complaint with the police on March 17. Panda somehow came to know that his daughter had been abducted to Mumbai.

On instructions of senior police officials, police teams from Varanasi left for Mumbai three times during the last five months and made all the efforts to recover the girl but to no avail. Recently, a police team returned to Varanasi on August 16 after finding out that girl had been kept in the house of one Ashok Sonker, relative of the accused in Goregaon there.

Meanwhile, local police is all set to receive an order from the Court to attach the property of the absconding accused under Section 82/83.

The investigating offier KK Tripathi said, “Soon we would recover the girl.”
