Couple sets each other afire

A SPAT between husband and wife over kite flying by their son turned violent when the couple set each other afire in a fit of rage in Faizullahganj Madiaon on Sunday morning . They received 85 per cent burns and are struggling for life in Shyama Prasad Muherjee Hospital.

Vinod Sonkar, a daily wager, was in home while his eldest son was flying kite. Vinod called him but the son was reluctant to return and continued to fly kite.

At this, Vinod bashed him up. The wife Lallu Sonkar did not like Vinod beating up the son, and responded angrily. Both started having a heated argument that converted into a fight. Both were in a rage, when one of them picked up a kerosene can to pour it on other. In the scuffle, both got drenched with kerosene. As one of them lit a match both caught fire. When flames started leaping high they ran out of the hut.

People gathered around and some even attempted to put off the fire, but by the time the fire was put off, both were badly burnt. At the hospital the burns were assessed to be eighty-five per cent.
