In Lucknow, kite flying during the weeklong Diwali festival season is a tradition. According to the state police, Vinod Onkar asked his eldest son to stop flying kite. But he disobeyed his father and continued to do so. At this, Vinod bashed him up mercilessly.
The ruthless bashing annoyed his wife Lata so much that she lost her temper. She told her son to continue flying kite and defy his father despite the bashing. When the terrified boy declined, she asked her husband to grant permission to the boy else she would go naked and fly kite on their terrace. After a heated argument, Lata took off her clothes and proceeded to the terrace but was stopped by Vinod. Both hurled abuses at each other.
Later Vinod started beating her and in the scuffle she also tore off his clothes bit him, injured his eyes and stripped him. Both were in towering rage and when one of them picked up kerosene can to pour it on the other both got drenched. As one of them tried to lit a match, both caught fire. By the time the fire was put off by the neighbours, the couple had burnt themselves completely.
