The decision to field Nara, a former Manipur veterinary minister, as common candidate of CPI, CPM, Janata Dal (S), Revolutionary Socialist Party and Forward Bloc was taken during a joint meeting some days ago, the sources said.

Manipur has two parliamentary seats--Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency (valley districts) and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency (hill districts). While Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency will go to polls on April 16, elections will be held on April 22 in Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency.

Senior leader of Manipur People's Party N Mohendro would be the common candidate of MPP, Manipur State Congress Party, National People's Party and Nationalist Congress Party in Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency, MPP had earlier said.

The ruling Congress is yet to announce names of candidates for the two constituencies while BJP had announced that former chief minister W Nipamacha would be the party's nominee in Inner Manipur constituency.
