CPI(M) to press for inclusion of six more issues in CMP
The CPI(M) is likely to press for the inclusion of at least six more issues in the CMP including the Women's Reservation Bill and the status of non-navaratna companies.
The CPI(M), which is in broad agreement with the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), is likely to press for the inclusion of at least six more issues in the document including the Women's Reservation Bill and the status of non-navaratna companies.
Informed sources have revealed that CPI(M) was discussing these points which include employment generation, disinvestment, public distribution system, labour law reforms and a Bill for the Agriculture and Unorganised Sector Workers.
"Though we broadly agree with the contents of CMP, there is a need for further deliberations so as to make it really a mutually acceptable one," they said.
The full 16-member Polit Bureau will be meeting in Kolkata on May 25 to hold detailed discussions on the CMP, besides deciding on whether to accept the Congress offer to make senior leader Somnath Chatterjee the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Asked whther any differences were there in the Congress prepared draft and CPI(M)'s demands, they declined to specify and added "wait for the outcome of the meeting."
On the disinvestment, they said so far the CMP talks only of navaratna companies like BHEL, ONGC, HPCL and BPCL, but there is nothing about the other two segments like profit-making small and medium enterprises and loss-making and potentially loss-making public firms.
On labour law reforms, the party officials are of the view that immediate priority should be given to undo the many "anti-labour" policies like Contract Labour and the fixed term employment (Contractual Employment), brought about by Atal Bihari-led NDA Government.
It is also learnt that CPI(M) is also planning to push for the Workers Participation in Management Bill seeking to put workers' representatives in the companies' Board.
