The CPI-M worker Jijesh (29), who was returning home with two others after attending work in connection with a marriage ceremony in a nearby house, was attacked by a group of suspected RSS-BJP workers with deadly weapons at Nangarathpeedika around 0130 hours on Sunday, a senior police official said.

Jijesh, who sustained serious head injuries was rushed to a hospital in Thalassery and succumbed while being shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, the official said.

The CPI-M has called for a day long hartal in Thalassery municipal limits to protest the murder, the second of its kind after a party worker Dhanesh was murdered by suspected BJP-RSS workers at Vankulathvayal near here on Jan 12 last.
