THE COMMUNIST Party of India (Marxist) has demanded that all- party committees should be constituted from State to block levels to ensure proper implementation of the Rural Employment Guarantee Act (REGA).
In a press release issued in Bhopal, the CPM state committee has said that the format of the committee constituted by the State Cabinet for implementation of the Act indicates the government is lackadaisical about the issue.
The CPM said that the State would be receiving Rs 1400 crore from the Central Government and contribute 10 per cent of share itself. It is a huge amount and the Act entails ensuring that every rural unemployed person gets 100 days of employment. Also, such opportunities are created that the rural people can get assured employment for several years.
To ensure this, the State Government should constitute committees that should have representatives from all political parties and organisations working for farmers and farm workers.
The decision to set up a single committee at highest level gives rise to apprehensions that the government might be looking to benefit some particular sections, the party alleged. State secretary of CPM Bahadur Singh Dhakad has written to the Chief Minister and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister to constitute all party committees till local level.
