Craftsmen to display skills amidst cultural bonanza at Shilp Mela

The long wait is finally over for those, who are interested in the distinct handicraft works.
Out of 100 stalls, set up in the mela, artisans for almost 75 stalls have already arrived. The others have informed programme officer Atul Dwivedi about their arrival.
"There will be the confluence of craftsmen from Orissa, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Uttaranchal and different districts of Uttar Pradesh.
"From UP region, we have furniture from Saharanpur, sarees from Varanasi, terracotta work from Azamgarh, pottery work from Khurja and embroidery work from Rampur," said Dwivedi.
In fact, there will be something exclusive from each State to lure the denizens. Quilts, sarees, carpets from Rajasthan, appliqué work from Orissa, tie and dye from Udaipur, katha saree from Bengal, and also kitchen commodities will attract the people.
Bamboo work from Nagaland, cotton work from Madurai, pearl craft from Hyderabad, stone carving from Tamil Nadu, craft of sea products from Orissa, sandalwood work from Karnataka, silk work from Assam, Bengal, MP will be the highlight of the mela.
Tribal craft will be displayed at the stalls of Bastar while leather work will be displayed by the artisans of Andhra Pradesh. Stuffed toys, Kanjivaram sarees, Chandrei sarees, paper mache and dried flowers will also be displayed.
Known for the harmony of culture, craft and cuisine, the Shilp Mela will be studded with various cultural programmes in the evening.
The opening day will witness the presentation of Odissi dance by Donna Ganguly, wife of Sourav Ganguly, former captain of Indian cricket team.
Famous for shehnai recital, brothers Sanjeev Shanker and Ashwini Shanker will perform the same day. Mewati songs will be presented by Nuruddin Mewati.
Folk items will be presented by the artistes from Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh.
Artistes from Kolkata will present puppet show.
Magicians from Hyderabad are also coming to enthral the audience through their magic tricks.
Anuradha Pal, disciple of Ustad Zakir Hussain, will play tabla on day fifth of the mela.
Mime artistes will give stage performance.
Another artiste Latafat Khan, a singer from Pakistan, is supposed to perform on the last day. Garaba, dandia, Bhojpuri songs, kathak dance etc will entertain the visitors during the mela, added Dwivedi.
Besides, there will be regular performances of traditional bhopa-bhopi of Rajasthan, bahurupiyas from Gujarat and nagada vadan from Haryana.
The mela will conclude on December 10.
