The jawan has been identified as Buxi Singh, a native of Punjab. The deceased, according to sources, had gone to Sisapanga village along with another colleague in a vehicle to fetch some food items. They were surrounded by a group of tribals, who were livid over the arrests of some villagers by the police in the last few days. The driver and another jawan managed to escape, but Buxi was caught and brutally killed.
Kandhamal Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar told HT, “The motive behind the killing is not known. It could be a reaction to police arrests and raids in the same village earlier.”
The police have launched a combing operation to nab the killers. All entry points to the area have been sealed.
Meanwhile, the three accused persons arrested in connection with the nun rape case from Kerala were brought to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday. They were arrested by a special team of the Orissa Crime Branch from Palakkad district of Kerala on Saturday.
