Trouble erupted when a group of 31 contract labourers engaged by a flour mill at Dumardah under Golokgunj police station were protesting outside the mill's office against the termination of their contract in March.
They tried to prevent a security guard from entering the mill campus and the CRPF personnel posted there forcibly took him inside.
"At this the agitators became violent and pelted stones at the CRPF personnel who opened fire to bring the situation under control," the sources said.
"Senior civil and police officials have rushed to the spot and the situation is tense but under control," the sources said.
