No degree college could start fresh classes as per the calendar. If the situation goes on like this, the target of 180 days teaching will remain a mirage for the university authorities.

As per the calendar, the classes for various graduate courses should have started from July 11. Similarly, the classes for the second and the final year of graduate and post-graduate courses should have begun from July 31.

However, barring the Christ Church Degree College, none of the colleges could have finished the admission process to first year graduate courses. Some colleges have displayed the admission lists and teachers are busy in verifying the original certificates of the candidates who got admission to the college. The verification, fee deposit exercise and allotment of sections may take another ten days.

These colleges will be able to start regular classes from the last week of July. This has delayed the session by 20 days.

Admission to the second and the final years of graduate and the post- graduate colleges was hampered for want of marks sheets of the previous years. The university could not despatch the marks-sheets of previous year to the colleges for distribution.

Even if the admissions are completed by the middle of August, the regular classes could not be held due to student union elections in the colleges. The district administration has directed to hold elections in all the colleges by September. As such it would not be possible for holding regular classes in the colleges. In view of the early elections the students leaders have started the exercise to woo the student-voters and as the colleges were opened, the environment would be charged with election activities.

According to the college principals regular classes could be held only after September. But they apprehend that the teaching would further be affected if the municipal elections were held during the current academic session.
